Hyundai's Blue Drive strategy is a collection of technology that aims to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. This means not only hybrid, electric, and fuel cell vehicles, but also tweaks to vehicles powered by the traditional internal combustion engine. This includes Alternator Management System (or AMS) which only charges the battery during deceleration or when there is engine power to spare, electric power steering which saves weight and space in addition to engine power and fuel, and low rolling resistance tires. The cars also feature Intelligent Stop & Go (or ISG) to automatically shut the engine off when stopped at a light or in traffic, and then automatically restart it again when you press the clutch. An eco drive indicator lets the driver know the best time to shift gears in order to achieve the best fuel economy. Cars built according to the Blue Drive principle are built in ISO 14001 certified plants in order to ensure that they meet Hyundai's environmental objectives and policies.
