BMW Steptronic is a range of automatic transmissions that allow the driver to manually shift gears if they desire. The transmission functions like a normal automatic until the shift lever is moved to select manual mode; then, the gears can be selected manually using the shift lever (by pulling towards you to upshift and by pushing away from you to downshift) or paddles on the steering wheel. Steptronic allows you to simulate a manual transmission in order to make the vehicle seem more dynamic and sporty.
