Volkswagen Celebrates Launch of Golf R with Ultimate Fan Experience Sweepstakes

Along with launching the exciting new 2012 Volkswagen Golf R this year, Volkswagen of America is also kicking off a contest that will give one lucky fan a weeklong trip to Germany. To sign up, those over the age of 25 can download the Golf R Drivers Forever app onto their iPad from the iTunes app store, and submit a 256-word essay as to why they should be picked for  the Golf R Ultimate Fan Experience. The app contains unique videos, pictures and other detailed information about the all-new Golf R. Those without iPads can mail in their entry.

The winner will be chosen at random on May 28, 2012, and the person will win a seven-day trip to Germany for two people this September. This person will also be able to visit VW headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany as well as get professional driving instruction in a new Golf R at the famed Nürburgring. Of course, it wouldn't be a proper vacation without luxury hotel accommodations and a Berlin sightseeing excursion.

Unlike the previous R32 performance hatchbacks, the 2012 VW Golf R replaces the VR6 engine with a 256-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired up to Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Another big change for the new high-performance Golf R is that it will be offered in both two- and four-door body styles. Like its predecessors, the 2012 Golf R comes with a steep price tag as its starting MSRP is $33,990 while the top model is the Golf R four-door with Sunroof and Navigation for $36,090.
