Getting right down to the heart of the matter, the biggest prizes at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas don’t  go to the most radically redesigned vehicles. Instead, the Specialty Equipment Market Association recognizes the production cars and trucks that underpin those show vehicles, focusing on the ones that have gotten the most attention from the show’s exhibitors.

"The SEMA Award helps guide consumers toward the hottest-trending and most accessory friendly vehicles on the market," said Chris Kersting, SEMA’s president and CEO. "Our SEMA Show exhibitors are industry visionaries who determine the winners of the SEMA Award based on the vehicles they showcase in their booths. Each booth vehicle represents a 'vote' and the most prominent models in each category are the winners."

Taking home the titles this year:

  • 2013 Ford Mustang—Named the “Hottest Car” at the 2012 SEMA Show was the Mustang, which showed up in a variety of configurations that ranged from the Ringbrothers’ Mustang GT custom to the Ford's own Mustang Cobra Jet Concept factory-built dragster.
  • 2013 Scion FR-S—The FR-S earned the nod as “Hottest Sport Compact,” with SEMA’s Kersting lauding the carfor its power, authenticity and ability to inspire customization.”
  • 2013 Ford F-Series—The Blue Oval doubled its pleasure by also garnering the “Hottest Truck” crown for the F-Series, on display at SEMA as concepts like the F-250 XLT Crew Cab that got a helping hand—and 10 inches of lift—from Kelderman Air Suspension Systems.
  • 2013 Jeep Wrangler—For the third straight year, the “Hottest 4X4 SUV” at SEMA was the Wrangler, now backed by custom parts from Mopar’s new off-road accessories program—including conversion kits for 5.7- and 6.4-liter HEMI V8s.
