SEMA-bound 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Sets New Power Mark

It took a fair amount of new hardware—as well as 101-octane fuel—but the team at Fox Marketing has managed to squeeze 370 hp from a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. And remember, that comes from a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a mere 1.6 liters of displacement. To put the new benchmark into context, it’s about 170 horses higher than in the standard Veloster Turbo and comes from upgraded turbo components by 845 Motorsports and BorgWarner EFR, as well as a front-mounted intercooler, water/methanol injection system and some ECU magic from SeoulfulRacing.

Backed by all those enhancements and more, the brand is calling this specially prepared show-car “the most powerful street-focused” Veloster ever, and it’s slated for a public reveal during the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Which means, of course, a typically SEMA-fied appearance that’s highlighted by a deep, rich finish with hand-mixed BASF paints, custom fog-light surrounds and rear fascia mesh, a new front-lip spoiler from ImportShark, and, on the inside, a performance cockpit with Takata racing seats.

The party line from Scott Margason, director of product planning for Hyundai Motor America: “The Veloster Turbo was designed with affordable performance in mind. Fox Marketing’s unique concept showcases the versatility of our turbocharged 4-cylinder Gamma engine family while expanding the overall performance envelope for the Veloster line.”
