The Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned program was designed to take the risk out of buying a used car. Each of the vehicles offered under the Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) banner are guaranteed by Hyundai to offer at least the same level of performance and reliability as a brand new model. This allows Hyundai to sell CPO automobiles alongside its new models in showrooms across the country, offering cost savings and warranty protection for buyers looking for a bargain on a recent pre-owned vehicle.
Hyundai bases its CPO program on the quality of the vehicles that it selects to bear the Certified Pre-Owned stamp of approval. This means that not just any automobile is capable of attaining CPO status. Right off the bat, any automobile applying to be considered for the Certified Pre-Owned program must go through an extensive history check where the automobile’s title information, DMV records and past insurance claims are examined by the CARFAX vehicle history report service.
The CARFAX vehicle history report is designed to highlight any issues from an automobile’s past which could keep it from participating in the Hyundai CPO program. These include records of major accident damage, particularly to the vehicle’s frame, as well as any instances of it having been stolen, been in a fire, or been submerged during a flood. If the vehicle’s odometer does not match what is listed by DMV records, or if a branded or salvage title is discovered, then it is also disqualified from being labeled as a Hyundai CPO automobile.
Hyundai’s subjects each CPO vehicle to a thorough inspection that is performed by dealership technicians with the goal of rooting out any possible problems with each secondhand car before it makes it into the hands of its new owner. This 150-point inspection looks under the hood, under the vehicle’s body and, of course, inside the automobile in order to check out every vehicle part, system and accessory. A test drive is also employed to shake down each used Hyundai and make sure that it is performing at the same level it did when it first rolled off the brand’s assembly line. If any defects are detected, then they are repaired immediately using only official Hyundai parts.
Thanks to the detailed inspection and painstaking selection criteria used to evaluate each potential CPO participant, every Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned automobile comes with a 10-year / 100,000 miles limited powertrain warranty. This coverage is designed to provide peace of mind by way of offering free repairs of any engine or transmission problems during the warranty period. 10 years of free roadside assistance – with no mileage limit – also come with all Hyundai CPO models, with Hyundai offering reimbursement for items such as towing to the nearest Hyundai dealership in the event of a breakdown, rental car expenses (up to ten days in total) and trip interruption costs (including food and hotel costs should a breakdown occur 100 miles or more from the owner’s home).
