Overview

The Chevy Aveo, which is assembled by GM Daewoo in Korea, is offered in two body styles for 2009 -- a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback called the Aveo5. The sedan was redesigned for 2008, and this year both it and the newly restyled Aveo5 utilize a new 107-hp, 1.6L Ecotec DOHC 4-cylinder engine with variable valve timing, which can be matched to a standard 5-speed manual gearbox or optional 4-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmission features a hold control mode to hold a higher gear and to aid traction on slippery roads. The new engine improves fuel economy to 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, and has been tuned for quieter performance.
