What Is The Volkswagen Auto Hold Function?

The Volkswagen Auto Hold function is an extension of the electronic parking brake system. When enabled (for safety reasons, the function must always be reactivated), the system automatically maintains the last-applied brake pressure at all four wheels after the vehicle has come to a stop. If the vehicle’s ABS sensors detect that the vehicle has started moving without throttle application (perhaps because the vehicle was stopped on an upward incline and is starting to roll backwards), brake pressure is automatically increased until the car comes to a stop once again.

As soon as the driver presses the accelerator pedal (and releases the clutch if the car is equipped with a manual transmission) the Auto Hold system automatically releases the brakes. The upshot of the system is that the driver doesn’t need to constantly keep their foot on the brake to keep the vehicle at a standstill, increasing their comfort.
