2014 Toyota Yaris SE Test Drive & Small Car Video Review

The Yaris is the smallest Toyota model available in the United States, but in the increasingly crowded subcompact car category, comparison shopping can be particularly challenging. The 2014 Toyota Yaris is available in 12 different trim levels, which complicates the decision-making process even further. Though the base model Yaris is the least expensive Toyota sold in the United States, sorting through all those trim level options means that pricing can change quickly. In this Autobytel video review, hosted by road test editor Aaron Gold, we explore how the 2014 model year Yaris stacks up against the expectations of a shopper in the small car category. He notes that most vehicles in the Yaris price range are four-door sedans, but the Yaris is a hatchback, which offers a little extra cargo space that might be an advantage to certain buyers, but is tight compared to higher-end hatches. Autobytel tested an SE trim model Yaris equipped with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 106 horsepower, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Buyers can opt for a 4-speed manual transmission, however. Though the power output of the 2014 Yaris is admittedly modest, it’s right in line with its competition, and the thrifty engine also helps the Yaris achieve solid fuel economy ratings. However, most of the Yaris’ competition offers similar reliability or a better driving experience.
