Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van Vacation Nightlife ・ Photo by Mercedes-Benz
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van is one of the most versatile vehicles on the road today, having grown from its humble roots as a tradesman’s work van and passenger shuttle into a mainstay of executive transport and recreational vehicles. High-end Sprinter conversions are like private jets on wheels, with luxurious leather captain's chairs, large screen LCDs, media ports, and lighting to suit any mood. Our list of 10 awesome Mercedes-Benz Sprinter conversions includes motorhomes from Winnebago and Airstream, along with a slew of extreme luxury vans and work trucks. While the Sprinter was once the only game in town, it now faces formidable competition from the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster vans. But the Sprinter has an ace-in-the-hole, as it's the only one of the trio to offer all-wheel drive.
RENNtech pulls out all the stops with the Sprinter Extreme Concept. This just might be the most over-the-top custom Sprinter conversion ever built. The prolific Florida-based Mercedes-Benz specialist lifted the Sprinter 3500 Cab Chassis and added a Scattolini ScattoMaax "Tipper Bed" to turn the Sprinter into a radical dump truck. (The dump bed is not a one-off; it's available through Innovative Vehicle Solutions, via the Mercedes-Benz MasterUpfitter program.) A custom roof rack was fabricated to mount half a dozen lights, with additional lighting on its sides and front custom brush guard. The Sprinter Extreme’s “G-Class-inspired” bright green beadlock wheels wear off-road tires, while custom rear fenders contain the mud. A radical wrap, chrome side stacks, and a front winch complete the look. You can’t buy one of these beasts off your local Mercedes-Benz dealer’s lot, but if you have the dough, RENNtech just might build one for you.
The Winnebago Era is a luxurious Class B Mercedes-Benz Sprinter-based motorhome that allows you to not only take your show on the road, but to take it off-road, too. The 4x4 model is Winnebago’s first trail-capable Sprinter RV, with two extra inches of ground clearance. The Era’s gorgeous contemporary interior is offered with four design combinations and includes dimmable LED lighting and blackout shades to set the mood. If you love to cook up the chow, you’ll surely appreciate the fully equipped galley with Corian countertops, a sink, refrigerator/freezer, and microwave, along with a convection oven in the 70C and 70X models. All Era models include a bathroom. The bedroom is fitted with a Flex Bed system that converts two twin beds into a single queen bed.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is positively ideal for a mobile office conversion. My friend Wade Martin is on his fourth Sprinter conversion and raves about his Midwest Automotive Design mobile office. “If you look at it in terms of billable hours, hiring a driver and traveling in this kind of office-on-wheels is the smartest thing you can do,” says Martin, a financial executive. “Every hour I’m in transit is now a productive hour. And I don't have to work when I get home. I’m relaxed, and I spend more time with my family.” Martin’s van has room to carry eight in complete comfort. His latest Sprinter mobile office is decked out with all the amenities: high-definition flat screens, a large refrigerator, and 4G LTE WiFi.
Need to fit a bucket truck into a tight spot? Just bolt an SNV Aerial lift to a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter conversion van and you’re good to go. While aerial lifts are typically fitted to heavy-duty 3500 series pickup frames or larger dedicated trucks, using a relatively compact Sprinter van opens a new set of possibilities. SNV’s ETT 29N-V Sprinter Aerial Lift/Splicing Units can be mounted on a Sprinter Van Chassis with a minimum GVWR of 11,030 lb. A bridge frame architecture allows for maximum storage capacity and interior accessibility. SNV-equipped Sprinter conversions are well suited for a wide variety of building, landscape, utility, and parking lot maintenance tasks.
